THE LUGGAGE VAN

When I was casting around for "something to build" for the 2012 MOTY (Model of the Year) competiton, I decided on a bit of whimsey.
What would have happened if, on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld™, they had developed railways?
Would they have needed a van to carry the Luggages of tourist passengers? My mind was made up!

The van started life as a standard Brandbright GS10 Goods Van kit, but it was going to get hacked about................

The first job was to separate the pair of non-working dummy doors into a real pair.....................

................and then to mark out a doorway on each (solid) side.................

........ having done a trial assembly (the laser-cut parts held together well enough to do this) and marked the floor level inside each side..

Once the door runners had been added..................

.......... and the doors tested for fit..........

a floor of coffee stirrer sticks was added, suitably stained with dilute indian ink...........

.................and the body was assembled, .

The Luggages started life in a Dolls House Emphorium...................

...................and the feet came from a button shop on Ebay!

Cut the loops off the buttons, glue to the luggages (now suitably de-fussied) and Hey Presto! Luggages!

The doors had catches, fabricated from brass wire, added...............

.......... the Luggages were glued to the floor.............

............ so they can be seen through the open door................

.............. and with internal lighting, brass door handles, door retaining strips (more coffee stirrers) and the roof, the job was a good 'un!
