"OCTOBER TIMETABLE" (2004)

It was too nice a day not to get something out to run, and as the "normal" Diesel loco "Gytha" is unavailable until her wheels have been retightened on the axles I was forced to run steam!

I'd got the choice of two - both "Lady Sybil" (on the left) and "Sir Samuel" have benefitted from some cosmetic work - see Sir Samuel's Page for a close-up of him.

The plants have (as always) taken over in some places. This Lineside bothy hasn't been used for some time................

.............. but at least you can see out of the window!

The growth at the back of the line has not been so rampant, but will get more so when the conifers on the right go - there'll be more room to walk, too!

Finally, I got out the Railway's Mamod Traction Engine, fitted a new burner and drive band, and gave her a whirl on the Patio.

Considering she's been moribund for a good few years, she ran very well. All the sealing washers still held up and (of course) the safety valve worked! It was nice to get the smell of a hot meths-fired steamer wafting over the patio - something that's becoming increasingly rare these days.
