THE 2009 RELAY

Following the vandal attack in April 2009, I put off any reconstruction until the so-and-so's who'd done it had hopefully forgotten all about it, but eventuallly started on 14th June.

The first job was to remove all the ballast................

............. before building 1 yard panels of track ...............

............... for the passing loop.

To build a 1 yard panel of Brandbright / Tenmille track, you need the following: (shown above)
2 lengths of rail
21 sleepers
42 chairs
2 lengths of battening, about 1" shorter than the rail, so they don't get in the way at joins
panel pins to fix the sleepers to the battens
a pair of rail joiners
a can of beer for the builder!

Stage 1 - thread 21 chairs (all the same way round) on each length of rail.

Stage 2 - attach the chairs to the sleepers - the RIGHT WAY ROUND!!

Stage 3 - drill 42 holes (one at each end of each sleeper) and pin each sleeper down to each batten.
Total time - something over half-an-hour
You people with Peco track don't know you're BORN!

Seeing as how the standard MDLR passenger train is going to be 4 bogie coaches, I took the opportunity to add a bit of length to the two platform roads - the island platform is going to need a little modification!

There was only a very short (less than 2" long) piece needed to make everything join up..........

The siding can wait!
